The State Coat of Arms of the Republic of Moldova is represented by a horizontally divided shield. The upper part of the shield is red, while the lower part is blue. On this shield is a bour’s head, having an eight-rayed star between its horns. The elements on the shield are golden (yellow).

To the right of the bour’s head is a five-petalled rose, while to the left is a crescent moon. All these elements are golden in color. The shield is placed on the breast of a natural eagle holding in its beak a golden cross (crucial eagle) and in its right claw a green olive branch, and in its left claw a golden scepter.

The black and white representation of the coat of arms uses conventional heraldic markings, where gold (yellow) is represented by dots, red by vertical lines, blue by horizontal lines, and green by diagonal lines from right to left. The outline of the eagle is only suggested.

The State Flag

The State Flag of the Republic of Moldova — the Tricolor — is the official symbol of the Republic of Moldova. It symbolizes the past, present and future of the Moldovan state, reflects its democratic principles, the historical tradition of the Moldovan people, equality of rights, friendship and solidarity of all citizens of the republic.

The tricolor is a rectangular flag composed of three bands of the same width arranged vertically in the following order from the stem: blue (azur), yellow and red. In the center of the yellow band is the State Coat of Arms of the Republic of Moldova. The ratio of the width of the Coat of Arms to the length of the Flag is 1:5, while the ratio of the width to the length of the Flag as a whole is 1:2.

National Flag Day is April 27.

The National Anthem

The National Anthem of the Republic of Moldova is a symbol of the sovereignty and independence of the state. The lyrics of the anthem were written by Alexei Mateevici (stanzas 1, 2, 5, 8, 12), the music by Alexandru Cristea, and the arrangement prepared by Valentin Dînga.

  Limba noastră-i o comoară
  În adîncuri înfundată
  Un şirag de piatră rară
  Pe moşie revărsată.

  Limba noastră-i foc ce arde
  Într-un neam, ce fără veste
S-a trezit din somn de moarte
  Ca viteazul din poveste.

  Limba noastră-i frunză verde,
  Zbuciumul din codrii veşnici,
  Nistrul lin, ce-n valuri pierde
  Ai luceferilor sfeşnici.

  Limba noastra-i limbă sfîntă,
  Limba vechilor cazanii,
Care o plîng şi care o cîntă
  Pe la vatra lor ţăranii.

  Răsări-va o comoară
  În adîncuri înfundată,
  Un şirag de piatră rară
  Pe moşie revărsată.
